6 Tips to Overcome Emetophobia
Anti-emetics
Anti-emetics are medications that help prevent nausea and vomiting. Common uses are for travel/motion sickness, and morning sickness while pregnant. While anti emetics are not a long-term solution to emetophobia, they can be a helpful tool in your toolchest of strategies. Anti-emetics can be used in a moment where you are particularly panicked or when you are feeling sick.
Anxiety medication
Emetophobia at its core is an anxiety disorder, with vomit as its unique trigger. Nerves heavily contribute to many emetophobes feeling of sickness. Anxiety medications can help to calm you in this regard.
Journal
Journaling is technique that we heavily recommend. However, journaling must be done in a very purposeful manner. Journaling should be a means to record progress and accomplishments that you are proud of. In your daily life as you try to brave your fears, if you do something that you are proud of, journal it! That way you can reflect on your accomplishments in your journal, which in turn can inspire you to continue your good work. We talk more about journaling in our mailing list.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, is a very effective form of therapy for emetophobia. CBT is a talking-based therapy that, as the name suggests, focuses on how our cognition (thoughts), affect our behaviors. CBT is commonly employed by therapists all over the country but can also be quiet expensive.
